Speaking ahead of United’s game with Leicester City this weekend, the Dutchman has slammed the performances of referees as his side are yet to be awarded a single spot-kick this season.
“I’m surprised, but the referee is always deciding and when he is not deciding for a penalty, it is no penalty.
“I never say anything about the referee because it is a part of the match and I cannot influence the referee, but you will have to ask the referees [why we have not had a penalty].”
However, van Gaal also conceded that his team have not been good enough in attack in recent games and need to improve.
“We have to improve in our attacking organisation and finishing the chances is always the most important thing because it is only goals that count,” he added.
