The New England Patriots will be without one of their best RBs when they open the season in Foxborough to begin defense of their Super Bowl title.
NFL.com reported that the league has suspended Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount for the first game of the season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse. Before the start of the 2014 season while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Blount along with Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell were arrested on marijuana possession charges. Bell has yet to be formally disciplined by the NFL on the matter.
Blount was released by the Steelers in the middle of the 2014 season and re-joined the New England Patriots for a five-game stretch and rushed for 281 yards over that span. He then excelled in the playoffs with 189 yards over three playoff games.
Blount will be eligible to return to the Patriots in Week 2 of the 2015 NFL season.
