Chelsea’s hopes of signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba look to have been brought to an end, with reports in Italy suggesting that the Italian giants are set to offer their star man a new contract.
Sky Sports have reported that Juve are ready to give the former Manchester United midfielder a deal worth around €3million a year, which would tie him to the club until 2019.
The possibility of a deal being struck between the two clubs has looked progressively less likely in recent weeks, after an initial speculation suggested that the Blues could be keen on making a £60m move for the 21-year-old Frenchman.
After completing deals for Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Mario Pasalic and Filipe Luis, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho claimed that there were unlikely to be any further additions at Stamford Bridge during this transfer window.
Speculation continued, with some sources suggesting that the Blues could still be tempted if a big-name player became available, especially with the club’s funds having been boosted by the £40m sale of David Luiz to PSG.
But their hopes of luring Pogba to Stamford Bridge now seem to be at an end, as Juventus move to tie down one of their most important players.
