Defeat for DC after close encounter
It was a missed penalty from Red Bull’s Kenny Cooper that gave DC victory the last time Ben Olsen’s side made the trip to New York in November.
The tables had turned at the Red Bull arena on Saturday though, as DC Captain Dwayne DeRosario’s missed spot kick was the difference between the two sides.
After the match the skipper spoke of his disappointment at failing to convert the kick, but coach Ben Olson feels the miss won’t matter too much in the long term.
Speaking to MLS soccer.com Olsen said: ” Players have short memories, we’ll bounce back It’s a tough loss tonight.
“Again, I feel like we deserved a little bit more, but in a day or two they’ll be over it and we’ll get back to work.”
The coach apportioned some of the blame on himself, as he felt the lack of energy towards the end of the game was due to over training during the week.
“We were exhausted, judging the legs that we had toward the end, I think I might have worked them a bit hard this week and I’ll take some blame for that. But the second half, the character that we showed, I was really happy with it.”
