Cronulla have been in great form of late but they couldn’t get over the fast-finishing Panthers.
The match started at a frentic pace. Penrith broke the stalemate.
But Cronulla answered quickly.
The Sharks went into the lead when Ricky Leutele went over.
Chris Heighington was lucky not to be sent off for this spear tackle.
Penrith went back in front, by two, when a try was created by Matt Moylan.
But a mistake from the Panthers let in Valentine Holmes and he made no mistake.
The Sharks were 18-12 in front at the break but Penrith were the first to score in the second half.
It was a great team effort that Moylan finished off.
That tied the scores up and then the Panthers were in front after Moylan slotted a penalty.
Cronulla’s line cracked on 72 minutes after failing to clean up a grubber and Tyrone Peachey scored. It was a costly mistake and the Sharks could not find a way back into the game.
A pressure-relieving win for the Panthers after a string of bad results.
