Former New Zealand Warriors and Newcastle Knights prop Russell Packer has not been offered a contract by the Penrith Panthers, the club confirmed on Monday.
The 24-year-old, who is currently serving 12-months in prison for assault, had been linked to a return to the NRL with the Panthers.
However have Penrith announced that Packer would not be joining them.
“The Panthers would like to address reports the club has agreed to a contract with former Newcastle Knights player Russell Packer. The reports are completely inaccurate,” a club statement read on Monday.
“The Panthers formally withdrew from negotiations with Russell’s management three weeks ago.
“At this point, we are focusing on the retention of several of our talented young juniors.”
