The 31-year-old revealed melanoma was discovered on his leg during physio treatment.
Perth Glory striker Shane Smeltz is recovering after recently undergoing tests for skin cancer.
The 31-year-old recently underwent a hip operation that would sideline him for the first few weeks of the A-League season but was shocked to discover that melanoma was discovered on his leg during routine physio treatment.
“The last year has been a bit tough injury and health wise,” He told four four two.
“I’ve just had keyhole surgery in my hip and I was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma when they found a suspicious mole on my leg.”
Medics subsequently ran extensive tests to establish whether the disease, discovered at a very early stage, had spread with Smeltz tweeting on Monday that he’d been given the all clear.
Thanks for all the kind msg’s people! Got result back today & all clear. I needed a clearing to make sure it was all gone..

Smeltz’s wife Nikki acknowledged that it had been a frightening experience for the New Zealand international and his family.
“We got it at a good time, but still, it was frightening,” he added.
