Petr Cech has chosen his Arsenal squad number.
Following his £10m transfer from Chelsea it was widely expected that Cech would replace Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal ‘number 1′.
However, Cech has opted to wear ’33’ on his Gunners shirt.
Cech’s decision to take ’33’ was based on two things – his age and the number of times he played for his former club.
The 33-year-old made 333 Premier League appearances for Chelsea in 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge, helping the Blues be crowned champions of England on four occasions.
Taking 33 will be seen by many as a salute to his glorious career with Chelsea, who must now become his enemy, as Arsenal attempt to dethrone the Stamford Bridge outfit to with their first Premier League crown since 2004.
The last ten players to occupy Arsenal’s ‘number 33’ have been Benik Afobe, Nacer Barazite, Matthew Connolly, Nicklas Bendtner, Adam Birchall, Graham Stack, Alex Bailey, Jermaine Brown, Tommy Black and Greg Lincoln.
