Robin Van Persie
Manchester United’s new man was the odds-on favourite until a few weeks ago, when a run of 10 games without a goal made everyone realise Van Persie was actually a mere mortal like the rest of us.
A goal against Stoke on Sunday may rekindle the goal-scoring fire for the Dutchman, but he has dropped behind Suarez in the race for the Premier League golden boot with 20 goals.
That being said, the 29-year-old has clearly been a driving force in United’s return to a league-leading force and their 15 point advantage over current title holders and rivals, Manchester City, is largely down to Van Persie’s performances.
A strong final run-in for the Netherlands international may put him back in line for winning the award for the second year running, but it’s likely that both Suarez and Bale are in front of the striker after his goal drought.
Van Persie’s tally of eight assists as well as 20 strikes cannot be ignored however and he will probably cherish his maiden Premier League medal more than another Player of the Year award anyway.
