The defender has missed seven weeks with shin splints, and hasn’t featured for the red Devils since their game against West Brom in October.
The England international has only appeared four times for his club this season, and injuries continue to disrupt his development as a player.
While this weekend’s derby game against Liverpool will come too soon for the former Blackburn man, United are hopeful he will be fit for next week’s fixture against Aston Villa.
