The Philadelphia Eagles had a strong finish to their preseason as they beat the New York Jets, 37-7. Quarterback Matt Barkley made the start for the Eagles and looked solid for the most part.
In the first quarter, Barkley threw an interception early on. He later settled down and threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Arrelious Benn.
The Jets started Matt Simms at quarterback, and he was unable to engineer a scoring drive. Tajh Boyd took over in the third quarter, and he pulled the Jets within a 13-7 deficit. However, this was all the Jets offense could muster as the Eagles pulled away with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Barkley finished with 253 passing yards while completing 21-of-33 of his passes. He also added a rushing touchdown. Running back Henry Josey made a strong case for a roster spot as he rushed for 121 yards on 22 carries. Jeff Maehl led all receivers with four catches for 84 yards.
Kicker Cody Parkey made a strong case to replace Alex Henery by nailing three field goals, including two from more than 50 yards out.
For the Jets, Boyd threw for 92 yards on 7-for-12 passing to go with his touchdown pass. Alex Green led the team in rushing with 34 yards on nine carries, but he fumbled twice and lost one of them.
