Redskins receiver predicts big things for quarterback.
Having spent four years with the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning, wide receiver Pierre Garcon is in a fairly strong position to judge quarterback play.
The Washington Redskins ace has spent just one season with rookie and reigning AP Offensive Rookie of Year Robert Griffin III, but has seen enough to predict that the youngster will be just as good as Manning.
“He can be just as good as Peyton,” he told NFL AM, as reported by NFL.com.
“Peyton’s very skilled with his arm. Robert is skilled with his arm and his legs, so that’s what makes him more dynamic and more dangerous,” he added.
However, Garcon believes there is more to come from Griffin, currently working his way back from knee surgery to potentially feature in the season opener.
“They are very similar. Quarterbacks are natural leaders. They take control of the huddle, their meetings, their team-mates around them, communicate with all the players, from offensive linemen to receivers and running backs. They’re similar to each other. Robert’s going to be very good and just as good as Peyton,” he concluded.
Garcon caught over 100 passes from Manning in Indianapolis, including a 19-yard touchdown pass in Super Bowl XLIV. However, the similarities between his numbers in his first season with Manning and then with RG III give further credence to his claims.
In his first year with the Redskins last season, he caught 44 passes for 633 yards and four touchdowns. That is in comparison to his first full season with Manning in 2009, where he had 47 catches, 765 yards and four touchdowns.
Griffin certainly impressed many experts and supporters last season, and his popularity was reflected in the jersey sales in the NFL as he finished top of the list.
Having enjoyed a successful first season, his first thoughts will be fully recovering from his injury. Following on from that he will hope to build on his achievements and potentially prove Garcon right.
