St Louis will be out to continue their charge towards the World Series when they take on Pittsburgh in the second game in their National League Divisional Series.
Pittsburgh have captured the hearts of baseball fans the country over after their stunning wild card win, but they continue to face a tough challenge every night against St Louis.
However, with both teams racking up 10 wins in their 20 outings against each other this season anything is possible in game two of the series.
It will be a battle of the young right-handers for both sides on the mound with Lance Lynn taking up starting duties for the Cards while the hopes of the Pirates will rest on the shoulders of Gerrit Cole.
It will also be a quick turnaround in games for the teams, and after their dominant 9-1 win in game one, that is exactly what the Cards are after.
“That’s the way you want it,” Cards infielder Matt Carpenter said. “You want to keep the momentum going, keep the energy up and come out tomorrow ready to go.”
Pirates manager manager Clint Hurdle backed his side to hit back after such a lop-sided game one.
“We’ve lost a few games like this this year, so what we’ve been good at is just moving on,” Hurdle said.
“We knew coming in we had to find a way to win a game here. Didn’t win today. We’re really good at dealing with the reality of the situation.”
