Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger threw 2 TDs in the first quarter as Pittsburgh won a close game against Buffalo.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Buffalo Bills 19-16 in Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
After falling behind 3-0 to the Bills, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger threw two TDs in the first quarter. After going up 13-3, Pittsburgh did not lose the lead for the rest of the game. With the game tied 16-16 in the waning moments of the 4th quarter, Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham kicked a 20-yard FG to give the team a 19-16 lead as time expired.
Outside of a 8 for 11, 128 yard and 2 TD performance by QB Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers struggled immensely on offense, with the two backup QBs Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones going a combined 9 of 18 for 100 yards and 2 INTs. On the ground, only Gradkowski was able to gain more than 3.0 yards per carry – the team combined for 35 yards on 19 carries.
The Bills dominated the game in time of possession, yards and first downs, but struggled with turnovers, committing four – 2 INTs and 2 lost fumbles. QB EJ Manuel went 17 of 27 for 148 yards with an INT in the first half.
Bills rookie WR Sammy Watkins suffered a minor rib injury and left the game but the starting receiver is not expected to miss any significant time. The Bills traded up in the 2014 NFL draft to take Watkins No. 4 overall.
