Pochettino believes experience at the back could be the key to solving defensive worries.
Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a shocking £3 million move for 33-year old Sunderland centre-back John O’Shea in a bid to strengthen their defensive reserves, reports the Metro.
The former Manchester United man was expected to see out the rest of his career at the Stadium of Light, but an opportunity to compete at the top of the Premier League with Spurs could be too hard to turn down for veteran.
While O’Shea’s experience in the top division in England cannot be discounted, it seems rather peculiar that Spurs’ new boss Mauricio Pochettino has selected a player who is possibly past his best as opposed to young talent.
It also remains to be seen whether the Black Cats sell O’Shea as they too do not have too much cover in defensive areas.
Spurs’ fans would be hoping that Pochettino is just warming up with the signing of O’Shea before going big in the transfer market for a higher quality player after the 2014 World Cup.
