Chelsea take on Maccabi Tel Aviv in their first Champions League game, and following a horror start to the season, no less than three points will be considered acceptable against their Israeli opponents.
The reigning Premier League champions were beaten by Everton at the weekend, in what was their third defeat in just five games – their worst start top a top-flight campaign in 29 years.
Nonetheless, they have a chance to quickly bounce back by proving their worth among Europe’s elite.

Chelsea deny reports of a BUST-UP between John Terry and Diego Costa
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho bans BANTER among Chelsea players following poor start to the season
Jose Mourinho could drop a number of senior players, including Branislav Ivanovic, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.
Earlier this week, Mourinho was quoted by The Telegraph as saying: “I am going to make a couple of changes to try a different dynamic and give a chance to players who aren’t playing.”
Here’s how fanatix thinks the Blues will lineup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night…
GK – Asmir Begovic
With Thibaut Courtois to spend the next three months in the recovery room, Begovic is a sure starter and will be making his Champions League debut.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Branislav Ivanovic looks to need a break from the spotlight. With few options to replace the Serb, Mourinho could move Azpilicueta across the park, allowing Rahman his debut at left-back.
CB – Gary Cahill
It was arguably harsh decision from Mourinho to drop Cahill in favour of Kurt Zouma at the weekend. The young French defender could retain his place, yet few can question that Chelsea are at their most secure with Cahill alongside Terry.
CB – John Terry
The Blues skipper’s leadership during this challenging spell for the club will prove crucial over the next few defining weeks.
LB – Abdul Rahman Baba
It’s unsure where the Ghana defender has been hiding since arriving last month, but Mourinho has hinted that the 21-year-old is finally set to make his first appearance in a Chelsea shirt.
