CM: Jordan Henderson
Liverpool’s new captain has a massive year ahead of him as he looks to fill the leadership void left by Steven Gerrard. He has improved with every season at Anfield and must do again this campaign.
CM: James Milner
Alongside him in the middle of the park will be his new deputy, with Milner confirmed by Rodgers as vice-captain on Friday. The versatile England international has been deployed in a central role in pre-season, a caveat of his move from Manchester City, and has rediscovered his goalscoring touch.
AMC: Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian is another who needs to step up this season. He played his way into PFA Player of the Year reckoning in 2014-15, and must continue to take on creative responsibility in the absence of Gerrard. Playing in the hole, as a modern-day No. 10, Coutinho also needs to chip in with a few more goals.
