3) Liverpool
With today’s blow of losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona, even the £75m brought in from his sale does not look like healing the wounds of this departure. With 31 goals in 33 Premier League games last season, Suarez was the stand-out player in the division and formed an absolutely breathtaking partnership with Daniel Sturridge upfront, providing Brendan Rodgers’ side with the catalyst to their surprise title challenge.
Without Suarez’s quality, Liverpool look well short. No doubt some signings will be made, but so far the additions of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can don’t look quite as exciting as some of those made by their surrounding rivals. Meanwhile, the club should probably be aiming higher than Swansea City’s Wilfried Bony as a replacement upfront for Suarez.
Many said Liverpool may have missed their best chance to finally win the league last season, and it looks like they could even be among the favourites to drop out of the top four next term.
Transfer window score: 4/10
