Arsenal forward is coveted by Premier League new boys, but manager is not confident of agreeing a deal due to financial restrictions.
Hull City boss Steve Bruce says that he would be interested in bringing Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner to the KC Stadium, but fears that the Denmark international could prove too expensive.
Bendtner, who is still just 25 years of age, has spent two previous seasons under Bruce’s management in his career – both for loan spells.
The first was to Birmingham City for the duration of the 2006-2007 season, in which he scored 13 times in his 48 appearances.
In 2011-12, he moved to Bruce’s Sunderland, scoring eight goals in 30 matches to help keep the Black Cats in the Premier League.
Despite never being owned by a Steve Bruce managed team, Bendtner has astonishingly scored almost half as many career goals for the Geordie coach (21) as he has for Arsene Wenger (45), despite playing just two campaigns under Bruce to six under Wenger – albeit not always as first choice.
Bruce recognises that he and Bendtner seem to be a good match, but is unsure that his club has the financial muscle to bring the Dane to Humberside.
“Nicklas, I’ve had twice, and there’s no question about his ability,” Bruce told Sky Sports News, as quoted by Goal.com.
“It’s obviously, when you’re coming from a club like Arsenal, a) can we afford him? and b) would Nicklas want to come to us?
“So, all of those questions we have to ask ourselves and the big thing is the financial one.
“I think as a club [Hull] a few years ago it got itself into a mess and, if it wasn’t for the owners now in charge, then the club would still be in a mess.
“We have to be well balanced and afford what we can afford, and not send the club, if we don’t succeed in what we want to do, into an abyss. We’ve got to be mindful of that.
“Nicklas Bendtner, without question, has got huge talent, but he might just be too expensive.”
Bendtner is clearly surplus to requirements at Arsenal, having spent 2011-12 on loan at Sunderland, and the last campaign at Juventus, where he did not score a goal in his ten appearances.
