10. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)
The Spaniard has recently signed a new one-year contract at the Emirates Stadium, but he is not guaranteed a starting place for the Gunners and that can always cause tensions.
He is a good ambassador for the club and a model professional, but Arteta is not a Tony Adams or a Patrick Vieira-esque leader who is going to inspire Arsenal to a long-awaited title.
9. Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City)
Shawcross went to the Terry Butcher school of captaincy. He is a rock solid centre-back who is willing to put his body on the line for the cause, and his teammates gravitate to him because of that.
He has clocked up 250 league appearances for the Potters since joining for a bargain £1m from Manchester United, and is a figurehead adored by all at the Britannia Stadium.
