6. Ashley Williams (Swansea City)
Swansea were one of the Premier League’s surprise packages last season as they finished eighth in the final standings, having been tipped for a relegation battle prior to the start of the campaign.
Williams was the driving force behind this success with week after week of dominating displays at the back. He has also skippered Wales towards Euro 2016 and into the world’s top 10.
5. Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace)
Australia coach Ange Postecoglou described Jedinak as a “born leader” and appointed him as captain ahead of the 2014 World Cup. Less than a year later, Jedinak lifted the Asia Cup for his country.
The all-action midfielder has also been an inspirational figure for Palace since their promotion back to the top flight in 2013. He leads by example and everybody at Selhurst Park follows him to war.
