2. Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)
Kompany was the influential captain behind City’s first title win in 44 years in 2011-12, and also lead from the front as one of the world’s best defenders as they repeated the feat two years later.
His form and fitness have since suffered and so have City. The Belgian managed only 23 Premier League starts last season and his presence was gravely missed as the Blues relinquished their championship.
1. John Terry (Chelsea)
A banner behind one of the goals at Stamford Bridge reads: Captain, Leader, Legend. This tribute to Terry is an indication that he is one of the best skippers in the history of the Premier League.
A warrior of a defender, a great organiser and an inspirational motivator, Terry is the archetypal captain and led the Blues out for a remarkable 500th time against Crystal Palace in 2014.
