Liverpool’s Under-21s were outclassed by a very powerful Benfica B side in the Premier League International Cup on Friday night.
Benfica B, who play league football in Portugal’s second tier, won 2-0 at Chester’s Deva Stadium. They took the lead on 36 minutes when Diogo Goncalves finished emphatically following superb play by wonderkid winger Sancidino Silva.

Benfica’s second side now top Group A with an impressive +6 goal difference thanks to this win, plus October’s 3-0 triumph over Chelsea and September 2-1 victory at Celtic.
Friday’s second goal came shortly after half time.
After scoring the first, Goncalves provided the cross for the second, which was tapped home by Joao Carvalho.
