German international was expected to leave Munich this summer.
Bayern Munich say that striker Mario Gomez will begin pre-season training with the club despite speculation linking him with a switch away from Germany.
The German international has been linked with a move to both England and Italy over the course of the summer thus far, with Fiorentina amongst the favourites to land his signature.
However, it appears as though he will begin his season with the Bundesliga champions after the club hierarchy revealed that he still belongs to them at the official unveiling of Pep Guardiola as the new coach.
The Spaniard is expected to make changes following his arrival, and has begun the revolution at the Allianz with the signing of Mario Gotze.
With Mario Mandzukic playing a more prominent role during the treble winning season last year, it remains to be seen whether Gomez will still be at Bayern for the opening game of the season.
“Gomez belongs to us,” new Coach Guardiola said at his official presentation on Monday. “He is a Bayern player right now and I’ll treat him like one,” he is quoted as saying by football-italia.net.
Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: “He will be present at the club’s first training session of the season.”
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are awaiting developments in the situation as they continue their wait to discover the fate of striker Stevan Jovetic.
It is understood that they can only make a bid for Gomez once the Montenegrin has departed, and he is expected to do so in the forthcoming weeks with Juventus leading the race for his signature.
However, both Chelsea and Manchester City have previously been linked with a move, and will also have a keen eye on the situation.
