The Premier League weekend was home to some thrilling moments, with a number of stars stunning football fans, not least Liverpool’s immense victory over Manchester City, courtesy of two sensational finishes from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea expertly dismissed Tottenham Hotspur to get their hands on the first of three trophies up for grabs to the Blues, in the Capital One Cup final.
Here’s our best XI from the weekend:
GK – Tim Krul – Newcastle United
But for the Magpies keeper’s saves, the three points surely would have been banished, producing some crucial stops from Christian Benteke and Tom Cleverley.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea
Continues to be the Blues’ most consistent and reliable performer – gave Nacer Chadli a torrid time at Wembley.
CB – John Terry – Chelsea
The remaining traditional English centre-back, and what a career the Blues skipper continues to have – to top off a superb performance, Terry netted his side’s first goal.
CB – Joleon Lescott – West Bromwich Albion
Coped with Southampton forward Graziano Pelle with ease. Could Lescott challenge Everton’s Phil Jagielka for an England call-up?
LB – Cezar Azpilicueta – Chelsea
Like Ivanovic, on the opposite side Azpilicueta didn’t give Andros Townsend or Kyle Walker a sniff on the attack on the right flank.
