2) Chelsea – John Terry, Gary Cahill, Kurt Zouma, Branislav Ivanovic
Although cracks have started to appear in Jose Mourinho’s first-choice pairing, Terry and Cahill were the outstanding partnership in the league last season and will come back strongly from recent setbacks.
Kurt Zouma is one for the future and has impressed in his 29 appearances to date. His pace and physicality brings something different to the Chelsea back-line, but he may not be ready to be a regular.
Links to Everton’s John Stones suggest that Mourinho is not quite content with what he has, but at least the signing of full-back Baba Rahman will free up Ivanovic as a possible centre-back option.
