No one has beaten as many players this year as Andros Townsend…
5) Fabian Delph – Aston Villa – 21 successful take ons
The youngest player in the top five, Aston Villa’s Delph has seemingly revived his career this term at Villa Park. He bagged on the opening day of the season against Arsenal, and has gone from strength to strength ever since, beating opposition defenders and midfielders 21 times already.
4) Hatem Ben Arfa – Newcastle – 21 successful take ons
Alan Pardew has publicly pinned his hopes on the skilful French winger, who has returned from injury to help the Magpies to a solid Premier League start. Ben Arfa is an outstanding dribbler, and has a penchant for scoring wondergoals.
3) Moussa Dembele – Tottenham – 25 successful takes ons
The first of two Spurs players on the list, Dembele dominates the middle of the park when he’s at his best. His huge frame and dribbling skills make him a very difficult to get the ball off, and he’s successfully take on and beaten opponents 25 times so far this season.
2) Ross Barkley – Everton – 29 successful take ons
The young English midfielder has stepped up brilliantly since Everton sold Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United at the end of the summer, and has earned his first England cap. Barkley’s dynamic style and technical ability has alerted Premier League giants like Chelsea and Manchester United, and the Toffees could face a fight to keep hold of him next summer.
1) Andros Townsend – Tottenham – 33 successful take ons
Despite Tottenham’s embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to West Ham at the weekend, the emergence of Townsend has helped them start the season well. The young Englishman has kept £26m record signing Erik Lamela out of the starting XI all season, and in the process, has beaten his fullback an outstanding 33 times.
