With a tense 3-2 victory over Norwich yesterday, Liverpool will definitely be playing in the Champions League next season, although they’re actually on course to win the Premier League title as well.
Although few could argue with the quality of the starting XI, the squad, in its entirety, is actually pretty thin.
Here’s the positions the Reds could do with strengthening, and some possible candidates to arrive…
Goalkeeper:
SImon Mignolet has had a mixed debut season at Anfield. While he’s made some excellent saves in big matches, his consistency hasn’t been to the level expected of a top, top level keeper. Big errors against Chelsea and Manchester City around Christmas time cost the Reds points.
What’s more, backup Brad Jones is definitely not good enough to come in and perform should the no.1 pick up an injury or a suspension.
Pepe Reina is returning from a loan spell, but will almost certainly leave the club permanently. Iker Casillas could be available after another season without regular first-team football at Real Madrid, and Victor Valdes is out of contract with Barcelona, although is expected to join Monaco.
