Cavani expected to join Ibrahimovic in the French capital.
PSG coach Laurent Blanc believes that the pairing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani would be a signal of intent to the rest of Europe.
It is understood that the 26-year-old Uruguayan international is closing in on a move to Ligue 1 with the reigning champions, with PSG director Leonardo revealing to reporters that “it is a matter of days” before he joins the club.
Initial reports after the departure of former boss Carlo Ancelotti suggested that Ibrahimovic was not impressed by Blanc’s appointment, and would be keen on following the Italian to Real Madrid.
However, it would appear that all is now well within the PSG camp, as Blanc looks forward to the arrival of more big name signings.
“I would be very happy if Cavani were to join PSG,” Blanc was quoted as saying by L’Equipe. “Cavani and Ibrahimovic are compatible. Their styles compliment each other.
“It would be a great coup from a sporting point of view if we sign Cavani and it would be a signal of intent toward our rivals in France and Europe,” he said as reported by Goal.com.
The French champions appear to have now fought off interest from Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City in Cavani, and are favourites to tie up a deal in the next week.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has maintained throughout the transfer saga that Cavani would not leave the club for anything less than his €63m release clause fee.
PSG have reportedly met that requirement, and will now press ahead with concluding a deal as they prepare to defend their domestic title while also looking to conquer Europe.
Speculation has suggested that the spending will not stop there either, as Leonardo continues to raid Serie A with reported bids for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi and Lazio star Hernanes.
