As the controversy of Suarez’s bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup consumed the football world, PSG made an approach to the Reds about the availability of the Uruguay international.
They were prepared to offer the 27-year-old’s international teammate Cavani as part of the deal as well, with the striker having grown unhappy at the Parc des Princes following a 2013 switch from Napoli.
The Merseyside outfit would have probably be open to the offer as well as they needed to replace Suarez as soon as possible and would have probably preferred the former Serie A star to eventual replacement Mario Balotelli.
However, unfortunately for them the biting attacker – who has since been served a four-month ban by FIFA for the incident in Brazil – had his heart set on Barca.
In an attempt to bring in someone to replace Suarez immediately Brendan Rodgers tried to negotiate a deal that involved Alexis Sanchez coming to Anfield, but the Chile international chose Arsenal instead.
In the end the Uruguayan moved without any other player being involved and Rodgers paid AC Milan £16m for the services of Balotelli.
