The France international is considered as a ‘child of the club’.
Paris Saint Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi says Liverpool target Mamadou Sakho is their own version of Steven Gerrard.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield after reportedly becoming unsettled at the Ligue 1 champions and has also attracted the interest Italian trio AC Milan, Napoli and Roma
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed the Merseyside club are keen to sign the the France international, who keen to leave the club before his current contract expires next summer and is yet to pull on a PSG jersey in a competitive match this season.
But Al-Khelaifi claims Sakho wants to stay at the Parc De Princes, where he has been since he was 12-years-old, and believes the defender will remain with Les Parisiens for the rest of his career in a similar manner to Gerrard at Liverpool.
“Sakho is a child of the club just like Steven Gerrard is at Liverpool,” Al-Khelaifi told L’Equipe.
“It is hard to imagine him wearing another team’s jersey. I’m a little surprised that he wants to leave.
“I had a discussion with him. My position is very clear and he knows it. We want to keep him and we will do everything to achieve that.”
