Italian outlet suggests French champions could make audacious bid for Uruguayan.
PSG have offered €40m plus Zlatan Ibrahimovic in return for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, according to La Repubblica, as reported by football-italia.net.
The Uruguayan star has been at the centre of much speculation this summer, with both Chelsea and Real Madrid interested in signing him.
However, there has been late interest from Ligue 1 champions PSG, who undoubtedly have the financial backing to land their target.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has maintained throughout the transfer saga that Cavani would not leave for anything less than his €63m release clause fee, however he will perhaps have to re-think that strategy in light of the latest bid from the French club.
It is understood that Cavani’s agent met with PSG director Leonardo earlier this week, while he is expected to hold talks with De Laurentiis at some stage in the next few days.
The 26-year-old is currently in his homeland enjoying time away with his family, and isn’t expected to discuss his future any time soon.
As a result, the speculation continues in his absence, with media reports claiming a variety of outcomes which include agreeing on personal terms with Chelsea.
However, there has been no official word from any of the clubs involved at this stage as to whether or not Cavani has a deal in place.
In contrast, Ibrahimovic is thought to be unimpressed by the appointment of Laurent Blanc as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor, and would be open to a move away from the French capital.
The Swedish superstar has never been shy to admit his love for Italy, and therefore he could be tempted by a move back to Serie A with Rafa Benitez’s men.
It remains to be seen whether there is official confirmation of PSG’s huge offer, but if it true then De Laurentiis may have some thinking to do.
