The Sweden international played for a season under the ‘Special One’ at Inter.
Upon the release of the striker’s new book, Paris Saint-Germain ace Zlatan Ibrahomovic reveals how Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho motivates players.
The 31-year-old played for a year under the Portuguese boss when the 50-year-old was in charge at Inter Milan during the 2008/09 season, before being sold to Barcelona in what remains a club record transfer for the Catalans.
Ibrahimovic opens up about how Mourinho got the players to perform at their absolute best, a philosophy that continued after the Swede’s departure when Inter won the treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League in 2010.
“He worked us hard to get us ready. He built us up before matches,” the PSG attacker was quoted in the Daily Mail.
“It was like theatre, a psychological game.
“The adrenaline pumped inside us and we went out like rabid animals.
“There were things like that all the time, unexpected things that got us going, and I felt increasingly that this guy gives everything for the team, so I want to give everything for him.”
Ibrahomovic is known as a difficult character in the world of football, but formed a strong bond with the current Blues boss and under the coach’s mentor-ship scored 29 goals that campaign.
Now with PSG the striker is continuing that rich vein of form and last season netted 30 goals in Ligue 1 to finish as the division’s top-scorer.
Mourinho meanwhile is increasingly recognised as one of the best coaches in world football and despite a difficult time at Real Madrid, has a record that can’t be argued with.
