Sportswear giants Puma, Arsenal’s sponsors from next season onwards, are prepared to help fund a huge deal to bring AC Milan’s Mario Balotelli to the Emirates in the summer, the Metro reports.
The Gunners are keen on adding a striker to the club, as they currently only the have the effective – but arguably not world-class – Olivier Giroud to spearhead the side. The Frenchman has only Nicklas Bendtner to back him up, and Arsene Wenger’s title challenge could derail if one of them picks up an injury before the end of the season.
Wenger was linked with Balotelli, but is not keen on paying an enormous transfer fee for his services. Since arriving at AC Milan from Manchester City in January 2013, the Italian maverick has scored 25 goals in 38 matches, effectively doubling the £17m price tag the Serie A club paid for his services.
Puma though would be apparently willing to pay as much as £15m towards the transfer in order to get their flagship player playing at their flagship club.
