Queens Park Rangers are casting covetous glances towards Celtic’s Gary Hooper as they seek to further strengthen their squad ahead of the transfer dealine.
The club’s takeover by Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes has already brought about some big changes that have been well-received by supporters. Season ticket prices have been reduced with those who have already purchased them being given a refund while a new price structure for other tickets has been implemented with those under eight years old being allowed into Loftus Road for free. There has also been a statement of ambition with the signing of Joey Barton from Newcastle United on a four-year contract.
The signings are set to continue with Neil Warnock wanting up to five more players by Wednesday’s 11pm deadline with Hooper emerging as a target. The Englishman has made his name north of the border after a sensational debut campaign with the Bhoys. The 23-year-old was the team’s top scorer in the SPL last season with 20 and has already scored on 3 occasions this time term.
While QPR managed a 1-0 win at Everton in the second of their three Premier League matches, the lack of a cutting edge has been a key factor behind their losses to Bolton and Wigan. Hooper is valued at £6m by Celtic.
