West Londoners are already planning for life in the Championship.
Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers are eyeing up a summer move for unwanted Newcastle United defender Danny Simpson, who will be available on for free at the start of next month, according to reports in the Shields Gazette.
The 26-year-old full back has been at St James’ Park for the past three seasons, having initially joined the Magpies on loan from Premier League giants Manchester United, with Simpson signing for Newcastle for £750,000 on a three-and-a-half-year deal in Jan 2010.
And in the intervening two-and-a-half-year period, the right back has featured in a total of 138 games for the club in all competitions, finding the back of the net on two occasions in that time, including one strike in his 123 Premier League outings.
However, with his current contract in the north east set to come to an end on June 30 and the player having so far refused to agree to a new deal to remain with Newcastle next season, Simpson will soon be an attractive free-transfer signing for potential suitors, with QPR hoping to pounce and sign him next month.
