Rutgers cruised to a 40-21 victory in the Quick Lane Bowl over North Carolina, and they finished their season with a respectable 8-5 record. North Carolina fell to 6-7 after losing despite being a four-point favorite.
Rutgers led, 40-7, in the fourth quarter before North Carolina scored two touchdowns in garbage time.
Turnovers were costly for the Tar Heels as they committed two while the Scarlet Knights committed zero.
The Scarlet Knights running game steamrolled the Tar Heels defense with 340 yards. Josh Hicks led the way with 202 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, and Robert Martin added another 100 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
Quarterback Gary Nova threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-20 passing.
For the Tar Heels, quarterback Marquise Williams threw for 198 yards and a touchdown on 25-of-37 passing. He also ran for 51 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Running back T.J. Logan ran for 110 yards on 14 carries.
