Spaniard may return to Anfield to sign in-demand Uruguay forward.
New Napoli head coach Rafa Benitez wants to sign Liverpool front man Luis Suarez as a replacement for the departing striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The former Reds boss has already accepted that Cavani will be departing the Serie A outfit this summer, although the Spaniard will be consoled by the fact that he will receive as much as £50 million for the red-hot Uruguay international, who is expected to sign for either Manchester City, Chelsea or Real Madrid.
And Benitez is understood to want to plough all of the proceeds from Cavani’s sale straight back into bringing his compatriot to southern Italy when the transfer window reopens for business on July 1 after the sensational season that Suarez has just enjoyed with the Merseyside giants.
Suarez, 26, registered an impressive 30 goals and 11 assists in his 44 matches in all competitions for the Reds and is expected to cost Napoli somewhere in the region of £40m, although it is believed that the attacker would prefer a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid instead.
