Luiz also subject of interest from Spanish giants Barcelona.
New Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly looking to take Chelsea star David Luiz with him to Italy, according to the Daily Express.
The Brazilian recently spoke of his admiration and gratitude towards Benitez, and believes the Spaniard helped improve his game during his short stint in charge.
The 26-year-old grew into an important part of the squad over the course of the season, with Benitez also employing him in a deep-lying midfield role which Luiz seemed to strive in.
As a result, Benitez is rumoured to have asked his new club about the possibility of signing his former player but it is unclear at this stage whether Napoli are in a position to do so.
The Express go on to say that the club have told Benitez that they would be unable to afford the defender unless star striker Edinson Cavani was sold first.
The Uruguayan international has been a key figure in the Partenopei’s rise to prominence over the past few years and despite speculation suggesting he will move on this summer, owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has maintained his desire to see the marksman remain in Naples.
In turn, that makes it unlikely that Luiz will be reunited with his former boss in Italy, with Chelsea likely to ask for around £30m.
With Benitez gone and Mourinho reportedly close to returning, it is rumoured that Luiz will ask for talks with the new boss to clear up his future.
Spanish giants Barcelona have also had an interest in acquiring the Brazilian in the past, and it remains to be seen if the Chelsea star is ready to move on.
