The 2014 IPL continues with two sides that could barely have been more evenly matched last time they met in Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Back on April 29 the two franchises went head-to-head in Abu Dhabi, finishing level on runs after their allotted 20 overs and also after a Super Over.
In the end Rajasthan just edged it on number of boundaries scored and the Knight Riders will be looking to seek revenge this time around for that narrow defeat.
Since then morale has clearly played a factor in the respective teams’ success on the pitch, as the Royals brushed past struggling Delhi Daredevils in their most recent outing – thanks largely to an impressive 50-ball 73 from Karun Nair.
Kolkata meanwhile were beaten by Chennai Super Kings in their last fixture and those results leave a four point gap between these two sides in the table.
That was KKR’s third successive defeat and their top order has to be blamed for this disappointing form, with captain Gautam Gambhir and veteran Jacques Kallis having been particularly poor.
With the ball spinners Sunil Narine and Shakib-Al-Hasan have both been solid, but too much reliance has been put on this duo.
The same can’t be said for Rajasthan, who in Pravin Tambe have discovered their own brilliant spinner, whilst James Faulkner, Dhawal Kulkarni and Kane Richardson have all been in fine form as well.
