When United snapped up Moyes as their new boss the Toffees were left looking for a new leader to replace the man they had had in charge for 11 years.
They turned to Martinez, who despite having gotten Wigan Athletic relegated the previous term did win the FA Cup with them against the odds and played well respected football.
Putting faith in Martinez has paid off, with the Merseysiders on the verge of getting into the Champions League after beating Arsenal on Sunday.
