7. Texas – You look at Texas’ conference record and feel confident since they’re tied with Oklahoma at 2-2, then you realize the two wins were against Kansas and Iowa State, with the latter win coming by only 3 points and realize just how far Texas has fallen since being a perennial contender with Colt McCoy at QB.
6. Oklahoma State – Apparently the close game against FSU might have been merely a mirage. If Oklahoma State can’t beat West Virginia at home this week, we’ll know for sure.
5. Kansas State – Kansas State has the appearance of a paper tiger. They narrowly beat Oklahoma thanks to several missed FGs, lost to Auburn and have had an otherwise easy schedule. Luckily for them, they get a home game against Texas to potentially keep them in the running before the nightmarish November which features Oklahoma State, TCU, West Virginia, Kansas and the season finale against Baylor.
4. Oklahoma – Not only have the Sooners played themselves out of the college football playoffs, they may have played themselves out of a shot at the Big XII title. But head coach Bob Stoops is one of the longest tenured FBS coaches for a reason, and if anyone can bring this team seemingly back from the dead in time to win the conference title, it’s him.
