Apparently there is just slightly more parity in the SEC than we thought. With Alabama and Texas A&M both suffering huge upset losses to Ole Miss and Mississippi State respectively, there is now a mad scramble for SECOND place in the SEC. First place, of course, belongs to the reigning SEC champion Auburn Tigers, who unlike the Aggies and their nemesis the Crimson Tide, managed to stay undefeated and now sits as the favorite for the SEC West title. Auburn still has to play the two upstarts Ole Miss and Mississippi State in the next 4 weeks – and both of those games will be on the road. But if Auburn can stay loss-free through that gauntlet and matchups with Texas A&M and Georgia as well, the annual Iron Bowl with Alabama will likely determine who represents the SEC in the college football playoffs.
Here are the power rankings of the SEC conference teams heading into Week 7:
14. Vanderbilt – Nothing will cure the pain of a blowout loss to Georgia quite like a matchup with FCS heavyweight Charleston Southern. Then again, a loss to that FCS team would most likely send the entire school into chaos….
13. Arkansas – This team could not have been given a worse time to travel to Alabama for a matchup with the Crimson Tide.
12. Tennessee – In the last two weeks the Volunteers have lost by a combined total of 4 points. They will most likely take their frustration out on Chattanooga.
