Raphael Guerreiro is a rising star in Ligue 1 and could be just the man Arsene Wenger needs in his backfield.
Amidst growing rumors that Arsenal are preparing to let defender Nacho Monreal leave before the transfer window, Lorient ace Raphael Guerreiro has emerged as a possible replacement.
According to the Metro, the Gunners are reportedly readying a transfer bid for the 21-year-old Ligue 1 defender with Monreal reportedly on his way to join Athletic Bilbao before the end of the summer.
Arsenal have had some problems on the defense this season, giving up three goals in the first three matches while only scoring two and needing an incredible save by goalkeeper Petr Cech to avoid defeat at the hands of Liverpool earlier this week.
Guerreiro has made 90 starts between Lorient and Caen over the last three seasons, making eight goals during that span as well. The Metro reported that the Ligue 1 outfit has an estimated £10 million valuation on him.
The 29-year-old Monreal has been a solid defensive option for Arsene Wenger since the club got him on a £8.3 million transfer out of Malaga.
