Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been suspended for two games by the NFL for an incident that involved him beating his then-fiance unconscious.
Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice made headlines during the offseason for a viral video of himself. The video of Rice appeared to be of him beating his then-fiance and now-wife Janay Palmer unconscious and dragging her out of an elevator. Here is the video that was brought into question.
As a result of this incident, the NFL decided to suspend Rice for two games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The running back will also be fined $58,000.
Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement that he expects Rice to continue with his counseling, which is why he made the running back’s punishment light.
Despite his offseason troubles, Rice has been working to put his abysmal 2013 season behind him, which involved 660 rushing yards and only 3.1 yards per carry. He has reportedly slimmed down 20 pounds.
The Pro Bowl running back has been widely known as elite until last season, rushing for at least 1,143 yards for four consecutive seasons.
Rice will look to return to form and put his past behind him, but Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett are expected to get the lion’s share of carries as Rice serves his suspension.
