It had initially been reported over the weekend that Gore would be signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, but later it was revealed that Gore was having second thoughts about joining the Eagles and head coach Chip Kelly.
The deal can be made official with the Colts once the NFL free agency period officially begins on Tuesday afternoon. The Colts are also expected to sign former Eagles LB Trent Cole and former Texans WR Andre Johnson.
The 49ers’ all-time leading rusher, Gore is second among all-active players in rushing yards with 11,073 since 2005. In 10 NFL seasons Gore has recorded over 1,000 rushing yards eight times.
He is a five-time Pro Bowler and was an All-Pro as a sophomore in 2006. However, Gore was limited in his carries in 2014 despite starting all 16 games. And his 69.1 yards/game were his lowest mark since his rookie season.
