Royals want to bring in a new boss quickly.
Relegation threatened Reading are considering making an approach for highly rated Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Gus Poyet to succeed the recently departed Brian McDermott at the Madejski stadium, says the Daily Mail.
The struggling Royals parted company with McDermott on Monday afternoon after a poor recent run of results had left the club second from bottom of the top flight, and having lost their last four fixtures are now separated from last placed Queens Park Rangers only on goals scored with just ten games of the current campaign left to play.
Initially it had been thought that former Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio would take over from McDermott, with the Italian having been spotted in the crowd during Saturday’s home 2-1 loss to fellow strugglers Aston Villa.
However, Reading could now make a move for one-time Uruguay international Poyet, who starred in the Premier League for London giants Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea and is said to be keen on a job in the top flight.
