Ex-Everton star on cusp of joining the Royals.
Dutch midfielder player Royston Drenthe is on the verge of signing for Championship outfit Reading according to the player’s agent, reports Goal.com.
The experienced Netherlands international has already enjoyed a brief taste of English football, having spent the 2011-12 season on loan at Everton, where the 27-year-old made 27 appearances in total for the Toffees in all competitions, registering four goals and eight assists along the way, including three goals and six assists in his 21 Premier League appearances.
However, after his one campaign in the English top flight the midfield player was then deemed surplus to requirements by the then Everton head coach David Moyes, leading to Drenthe’s next move to Russian club Alania Vladikavkaz in Feb 2013.
And now the Royals have snapped the Dutchman up, with Drenthe set to play for the club in the Championship as of next season, with the player’s agent Fabian Veldwijk confirming to NUsport: “The contract has been signed. A few small things have to be arranged before it’s official.
“He has a good feeling with the club and wants to play in England.”
