Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has issued a firm warning to Manchester United, saying he is “100 per cent” certain Sergio Ramos will remain at the Bernabeu this season.
Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over recent weeks, however, Benitez insists the Spanish international will not be making a move to the Premier League giants.
“Sergio Ramos is our player and is a key player for us. I would like to see him at the beginning of the season playing for us,” Benitez is quoted as saying by Daily Star.
“I think he will be crucial for us this season.
“I am 100 per cent. I insist it’s clear for me and for the club that Sergio will be here.
“I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal and football is a curious world, but Sergio Ramos will stay with us.”
United boss Louis van Gaal is understood to be looking to bolster his defence ahead of the new season and may now have to put his full attention into landing the signature of another defensive target in Nicolas Otamendi.
The Red Devils look to have big competition in the chase for the Valencia defender, with Daily Star reporting that Manchester City are also keen in the Argentine international.
