Koscielny is understood to be a top target for new Madrid coach Rafa Benitez, who wants to pair him up with compatriot Raphael Varane in the heart of their defence with rumours continuing to suggest that Sergio Ramos is set to leave.
The Spaniard has reportedly told the club that he wants a new challenge ahead of next season, with Manchester United the likely destination if he does depart.
As reported by Metro Sport, Madrid seem determined to sign the French international and they are making progress with a bid of around £21.4m.
It is unclear at this stage as to whether or not the Gunners are open to discussing a fee, or if Koscielny is even interested in an exit from the Emirates given that he has previously rejected a move to Bayern Munich.
Arsene Wenger has been criticised for not investing heavily enough to create a strong backbone to his squad over the years, and selling Koscielny would undoubtedly give his critics further reason to question him.
As a result, it remains unlikely that a deal will be done, but Madrid are seemingly set on their target and will continue to press ahead with a bid and see if there is a willingness to discuss terms.
